Afro-Anglican Commission Report 2017-2018

The Afro-Anglican Commission had regular monthly meeting. In partnership with the Vivian Traylor Chapter of the Union of Black Episcopalians, the ACC supported the following activities:

The annual Absalom Jones Service was held at Grace Cathedral on February 7th. The Rev. Gayle Fisher-Stewart was the Guest Preacher. The attendance represented the diocese and all enjoyed a spirited service.

The Union of Black Episcopalians held it’s Western Regional meeting in Oakland May 4-5. The National President of the Union, Annette Buchanan was in attendance. Presentation were made by the Mayor of Oakland and The Interfaith Justice Council.

Financial support was given to support attendance at the 50th Anniversary of the Union of Black Episcopalians and to seminarians of color from CDSP to attend various national church gatherings.

Members of the ACC continue to inform the Bishop and the Diocese of events that are of particular importance concerning racial relations in the Diocese and on the National Church level. We also make every effort to identify persons of color to serve on the various committees and commissions, again in the Diocese and on the National Church level.
