Following the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010, the Episcopal Diocese of California was invited to work in partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti to rebuild École de Musique Ste. Trinité (Holy Trinity Music School), Port-au-Prince. Currently 5,000 Haitian children are educated by the Episcopal Church in the nation’s capital, with 1,000 of these receiving advanced music training.
The first phase of this partnership was the arrival of 40 students, teachers, and chaperones from the school in late September 2011. While in our diocese the group performed four public concerts, a Sunday morning service, spent two days in residence at Episcopal schools, and enjoyed the hospitality of The Bishop’s Ranch and nearly one hundred host families.
Les Petits Chanteurs and the Chamber Ensemble from the school will once again tour the Diocese of California in early October 2012. A preview of filmmaker Owsley Brown’s documentary about Holy Trinity Music School will be viewed at Grace Cathedral on Thursday, October 4 (See below).
