St. Mary the Virgin, San Francisco

Founded in 1891, St. Mary’s is a community of curious, faithful people who delight in the goodness of creation, celebrate the bonds of love and affection between neighbors, and share the good news of God’s love for the world. We seek to support the flourishing of individuals and families through five core practices: worshiping weekly, praying daily, learning constantly, serving joyfully, and living generously. With vibrant offerings for children, youth and families, thriving Young Adult and LGBT groups, and a deep commitment to community engagement, St. Mary’s seeks to live into the important questions of faith through common prayer and inter-generational life.

We welcome you warmly and hope you will join us as we journey together in God’s grace. Whoever you are, there is a place for you here.

8:00 a.m – Holy Eucharist, Rite I
This spoken Eucharist features traditional language, readings from holy scripture, a homily, and prayers for the world. As always, everyone is invited to come forward during Communion to receive the bread and wine made holy.

10:00 a.m. – Sung Holy Eucharist
During the summer months, we combine our 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services, introducing elements of non-traditional liturgies and offering musical leadership from the Summer Choir, open to singers who come an hour beforehand.
Child care is available for children up to age eight.

Regular worship times of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. will resume on September 10.

9:00 a.m. – Sung Holy Eucharist, Rite II
This lively service of worship includes traditional elements of Episcopal liturgy while lifting up our children and family ministries. Adapted from the Rite II Service of Holy Eucharist, worship integrates scripture, prayer, and sacrament with an interactive children’s homily delivered by lay members of the parish and varied musical offerings. Musical leadership is offered by the Children’s Choir and Youth Choir and youth also serve as acolytes. Pre-schoolers process to Sunday School following the children’s homily, while all other children up through Confirmation Class go following communion, while the adults hear the sermon.

Nursery care is available for children up to age three.

11:00 a.m. – Sung Holy Eucharist, Rite II
In this relatively traditional Rite II Eucharist, God is made known to us through word and sacrament. As in the earlier services, parishioners serve as lectors, prayer leaders, and Eucharistic ministers. Music, including choral offerings and congregational singing, is integral to our worship with leadership provided by the Parish Choir.

Nursery care is available for children up to age three.
