Associate Rector for Youth, Children and Family Ministries, Epiphany, San Carlos
Church of the Epiphany is a thriving congregation of more than 500 members who place a high value upon vibrant Children’s and Youth Ministries. Many lay members of the parish (whether or not they have children) are involved in these ministries – as Godly Play and Middle School Teachers, as Leaders and Mentors in our Jr. and Sr. Seekers (Youth) and Confirmation programs and as chaperones and participants in our Youth Mission Trips.
We are seeking an Associate who will be a team player, demonstrating experience and enthusiasm for collaborative ministry with both Lay Leaders and other Clergy and Staff members. This collaboration will be especially apparent in the creation and oversight of faith formation programming and worship opportunities for our children, youth and families.
This is a full-time position that includes salary with a housing allowance, pension contributions and medical/dental insurance per Diocesan standards. This position is available beginning mid-August.
Requirements: Masters of Divinity (or equivalent) and a minimum of 3 years of Family/Youth Ministry (or similar experience).
Your priesthood will be fully valued at Epiphany. You will preside and preach on a regular basis, sharing in rotations with the Rector, Deacon and Lay Preachers. We currently have two Sunday services, a mid-week Healing Service/Eucharist and a monthly Eucharist at a nearby Assisted Living home.
The Associate will create Parent Education and Spiritual Support opportunities for our parents. The Associate will occasionally teach in Godly Play and Middle School, providing introduction to the BCP and our Sacramental and Liturgical worship life. The Associate will also lend support to social programming for all age groups, including our new 3rd – 5th graders parent-led group, and coordinate activities such as Family Game Nights and Shrove Tuesday pancake suppers.
The Associate will organize and oversee a week-long Summer Vacation Bible Camp, recruiting both participants and volunteers. The Associate will provide oversight of our lay-led Sunday Summer Club (that replaces Church School June-August) and other summer social opportunities (ex. Intergenerational pot-luck dinners). The Associate will help coordinate our Christmas pageant.

Values, Experiences, and Attributes sought in our Associate Rector
- Organizational skills are paramount for handling this ministry successfully. We are looking for someone who is gifted with organizational abilities and experienced both in setting long-range goals and working well in more immediate circumstances. Organization will, of necessity, involve knowing when to be involved as a leader and when to delegate to others.
- We are looking for a confident Preacher, whose homilies demonstrate how you seek to live out the Baptismal Promises in your own life while nourishing others in Christian discipleship.
- Worship is integral to our parish life so we are seeking someone who is passionate about, and experienced in, creating and leading liturgy. Emerging Church experience will be very valuable as we look towards possibly creating a once-a-month contemporary service.
- Pastoral care is highly valued at Epiphany and we are seeking someone who can demonstrate how they have developed trusting relationships within a congregation.
- We are looking for an individual who has a passion for faith formation and who can demonstrate experience in programs for children of all ages, pre K – High School and their families. Experience in Christian Parent education would be helpful as this is an area we wish to develop more fully.
- Communication skills are critical for this ministry. Fluency with social media will be very helpful in communicating effectively with our teens.
- Our new Associate should be a leader who invites others into conversations and decision-making and who provides encouragement, while not avoiding conflict or difficult situations.
