Praying to the Light: Annual Epiphany reflection day

On Saturday, January 3, the Rt. Rev. Marc Handley Andrus facilitated his annual Epiphany reflection day at The Bishop’s Ranch. Through the course of the five-hour reflection time, Bishop Andrus worked with participants to deepen their prayer lives through a variety of techniques drawn from world: praying with icons, praying without images, praying in silence, and praying with words, among other practices.

During each section of the retreat, Tom Poyner, campus minister at the University of California, Berkeley, provided music to ground the group and set the tone for the teaching and reflection segment. Approximately 45 people participated in the retreat, which usually falls on the first Saturday of January. Over the last few years, the reflection day has grown from just a few participants to its current numbers — and there is always room for someone else.
