You are your own best medicine
From the Episcopal Church Medical Trust MT Healthy Partners newsletter
As we embark on a new year, what a great time to schedule your annual health screenings! Regular physical exams and health screening tests are an important part of your health care. Your test results provide a snapshot of your current health and reveal opportunities to make healthy changes. Screening tests can also help detect problems early, which is often key to successful treatment. Mayo Clinic has designed a tool that will create your customized screening guidelines according to your age and gender. Click here to find out your age appropriate screenings.
If you haven’t scheduled a physical yet, here is another reason why now’s the ideal time to schedule one. The Medical Trust has teamed up with the Mayo Clinic to offer you the Mayo Clinic Health Assessment. It’s helpful to have some key numbers before you take the Health Assessment. However, if you don't have your numbers, you can estimate these values and still receive meaningful results.
- Total cholesterol level along with a break-out of your LDA (low-density lipoprotein) and HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol levels
- Blood pressure
- Triglyceride level (fasting)
- Blood sugar level (fasting or non-fasting)
You’ll also be asked about your medical history, medications, nutrition, exercise level, and alcohol use. All information is kept strictly confidential.
In just 15 minutes, learn about
- your health strengths and risks.
- the steps you can take to minimize your health risks.
- resources to help improve your health.
