Below are resources for clergy wishing to officiate at same-sex marriages in the Diocese of California. The first is a pastoral letter from the Rt. Rev. Marc Handley Andrus authorizing — within the Diocese of California — the use of the rites approved for trial use by General Convention in 2015 — for both same- and opposite-sex couples. “The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage” from the Book of Common Prayer continues to be an option in its unedited form. Resolution A054 — which authorized the rites — included seven minor revisions, all of which have been included in these rites made available.
The rites are below (“The Witnessing and Blessing of a Marriage” and “The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage (2)”) and are to be used for performing legal marriages.
The final link is the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music’s report to the 78th General Convention, which Bishop Andrus encourages all clergy performing marriages to review in full.
