Bishop Marc’s Climate Work

The Rt. Rev. Dr. Marc Handley Andrus, Bishop of California, is a leading Episcopal voice for climate action and advocacy. Each year, he leads an Episcopal Church delegation to the UN Climate Conference (COP) to advocate on behalf of those most vulnerable to the devastating effects of climate change. A member of the Anglican Communion Environmental Network, Bishop Andrus is preparing to take a key leadership role at climate discussions at the Lambeth Conference, a once-a-decade event gathering of bishops and spouses from across the Anglican Communion. He is also active in the America Is All In Leaders’ Circle, a diverse group of government, business, tribal, and faith leaders advocating for stronger climate action in the United States.

Under Bishop Andrus’ leadership, the Episcopal Church in the Bay Area has adopted numerous policies and practices that help congregations and individuals make creation care a vital part of spiritual life. To that same end, the diocese piloted Sustain Island Home, a digital carbon tracker designed to help people take stock of how their daily habits impact the planet and track their progress as they take action together. Sustain Island Home was adopted by the Episcopal Church at its 2018 General Convention for use throughout the Church.
