Description

Showing “The Philadelphia Eleven: Courage to Change” film at St. Clare’s, Pleasanton

On Sunday, November 12 at Noon, St. Clare’s in Pleasanton will host a showing of The Philadelphia Eleven:  Courage to Change, a documentary by Margo Guernsey about the eleven women ordained Episcopal priests against church rules in Philadelphia in 1974. Hugely controversial at the time, this first ordination of women hit a chord in a deeply divided world by questioning who speaks the word of God. Each woman had to decide how to live out her priesthood in the face of an institution that did not accept her.  The Philadelphia Eleven tells the story of these women priests in their own words.

The film, part of St. Clare’s Movies that Matter series, is FREE and all are welcome. A light luncheon will be served following St. Clare’s  regular 10 a.m. Holy Eucharist service, with the movie beginning promptly at noon. There will be time for discussion after the film, and recognition of the earliest women ordained in the Diocese of California. Sign up, or through St. Clare’s website.
