Musiq3, Belgian Radio gave Alexander Hersh’s performance at the inaugural Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2017 a rave review: ‘With scenic presence and charm, the 23 year old American Alexander Hersh has everything to become the darling of the public. Add to that a powerful sound with varied palette, and you get even more.’ Music at St. John’s Ross opens its season with this rare opportunity to hear an emerging international artist at the start of his career. The featured work is Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No. 5, op. 102#2. Other composers will include Sollima, Webern, and Saint-Saëns – and some classic ragtime giants. Collaborating artist Paul Hersh is the Robertson Professor in piano and viola at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
