Remembrance, Recognition, and Reconciliation: Opening a Conversation (Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, San Rafael)

Sunday, November 22, 2020, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm

Did you know that the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer preschool, church, and labyrinth are located on a sacred Coast Miwok shellmound within the land now called San Rafael? Please join our Zoom program (right after our bishop, the Rt. Rev. Marc Andrus, Bishop of California, preaches and leads worship at 10AM) in order to help open a conversation on how we can rightly remember the sometimes painful history of the land and its inhabitants, that hopefully such recognition over time will lead to closer relations and mutual respect for the living legacy of the Coast Miwok in our Redeemer and Glenwood communities. Toward this effort we welcome Alicia M. Retes, Education Director of the Marin Museum of the American Indian (MAI), and Sky Road Webb, a Tamalko of the Tamales Bay Coast Miwok, Board President of Marin American Indian Alliance and MAI Advisory Board Member, for a program of discussion, storytelling, song and blessing.  We extend a particular invitation to Sacred Ground participants around the Diocese of California to come as witnesses.
