St Stephen’s Belvedere’s Strength in Weakness Rector Studies

Peculiar Treasures: A Biblical Who’s Who of Grace

Eight Sessions: 6th May — 24th June, 4:30p

This seminar will study grace, and in the early sessions we’ll focus on people we read about in the Book of Judges. What is grace? Grace is the disproportion between what’s needed and what’s given. It’s there in Jesus’ own words, ‘Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over.” It’s not as if God exists in order to fill a carefully defined gap in our needs; we put in the request and God signs it off and gives it back. No. It’s more like open the slightest crack to the grace of God and in it all comes. And I suppose that’s part of what gets St Paul going in some of the letters where he suddenly sort of spots the sheer exuberance and extravagance of what he’s talking about, and can’t reign himself in.

We’ll meet on Thursdays at 4:30p beginning the 6th of May. The way we’ll meet is up to you. I’ll be in the courtyard of St Stephen’s, Belvedere, at 3 Bayview Avenue. You can either meet with me there or join the seminar via the virtual link found on the church website calendar page.
