Ash Wednesday immigration rights vigils

Posted on February 20, 2013

Around the country Episcopalians participated in vigils for immigration rights and reform on Ash Wednesday. Representatives from The Episcopal Church submitted written testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori took part in an interfaith vigil near the bridge to Ellis Island. More information on actions in New York and New Jersey is available from the Episcopal News Service. As actions were taking part around the United States, some in Washington kept vigil on Capitol Hill outside Senate office buildings. The Washington Post has a brief article on the actions on Capitol Hill. As part of the nationwide vigils and actions, DioCal Episcopalians joined an interfaith action at the 24th and Mission BART station in San Francisco. Pictures are available on the St. John the Evangelist Facebook page.
