In Memoriam: Felipe Sanchez-Paris

Posted on July 31, 2013

The Rt. Rev. Marc Handley Andrus, Sheila Andrus, and the Diocese of California are deeply saddened by the death July 31 of Felipe Sanchez-Paris. Felipe is the beloved husband of the Rt. Rev. Otis Charles. He died unexpectedly in his sleep.

Bishop Marc offered these words: “Felipe was a man who embodied the fullness of life — a great intellect that was always routed through his compassionate heart. Sheila and I always enjoyed dinners with Otis and Felipe when we were at House of Bishops meetings and the General Convention. Their good spirits could lift the after effects of long, stultifying, or frustrating meetings. Felipe was a devoted, active member of St. Gregory’s. Their good rector and pastor, the Rev. Paul Fromberg, let me know of Felipe’s death. I was comforted to know that Felipe and Otis’s great friend, the Venerable Anthony Turney has been with Otis at his home, where members of St. Gregory’s, Otis, and Anthony have been preparing Felipe’s body for burial. Our loving God allows us all the gift of memory of Felipe, to remain with us.”
Rest eternal grant to Felipe, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.
The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 3 p.m. at St. Gregory of Nyssa, San Francisco. The Rt. Rev. Marc Handley Andrus will preside. Contact St. Gregory’s office for further information,, 415.255.8100.
